Areas Where Child Life Services Are Offered

  • In 1922, C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital was the first hospital to establish early play programs and a hospital school program for children. The Department of Child and Family Life is comprised of a variety of child life disciplines, including certified 4 board certified music therapists, 2 art therapists, a certified therapeutic recreation specialist, 6 learning specialists, 4 patient techNlogy specialists, 4 child life assistants, and over 40 child life specialists.

  • The Child and Family Life Department is currently functioning at full capacity with on going capacity limitations with playroom staff, and the slow reintegration of volunteers. A Child Life internship continues to be offered with the practicum returning in January of 2022.

Fellowship Availability Information

  • Yes

  • Michigan Medicine, along with The Child and Family Life Department, is committed to providing quality education and training for both students and professionals. The Fellowship offers entry-level child life experience for a college graduate who has completed a minimum 600 hour Child Life internship. Certification or exam eligible required.
